Do you know about branding and how it can help?
Are you a solopreneur who has been looking to brand?
Very few sole proprietors ever choose to think carefully about their branding strategy.
Yet, branding can be one of the most important elements of building a business.
There’s a good reason why multi-billion dollar businesses have teams of people to manage their brands.
They know exactly the kind of strategy to build brands such as Nike, Apple, Pepsi, and many more.
And fortunately for you, small businesses can brand just as successfully.
It’s not just for these major companies anymore.
You just need to know how.
Let’s find out about branding and how it can help you grow your business.
What is branding?
Whether you are a solopreneur or a huge company, branding is crucial.
It can make or break your marketing techniques.
Think of your branding as the thing that will enable others to quickly decide to buy from you.
First, they need to find out you exist.
Then second they need to have an understanding of what you do.
And third, they need to know your unique selling point.
What factors influence opinion?
We all know that a good brand will achieve an instant approval with their target customer.
And if they try your product, they will instantly form an opinion of its quality.
Some customers will look at their budget first.
The cost can be a big factor in their decision.
But, it’s not the only factor.
There are other things that will influence their opinion as well.
It’s not just the cost.
For example, a lot of people have started using all natural products.
They want things that are green.
Think of it this way, let’s say you need to get some household cleaner.
You see a bottle of Pine-Sol for $4, a no-name for $3, and Green Works for $5.
Which one will customers pick up?
Green Works is an all natural cleaner.
It went head to head with major brands like Pine-Sol.
And gained market value because of what it represented.
They were a healthy alternative for cleaning your house.
Now, granted most people will pick up a brand they know of.
They assume it’s better because it has a strong brand.
If they have tried it, they know which one they prefer.
And they will buy it no matter the price.
But, they can be persuaded if it fits their values.
Such as things like Green Works cleaning supplies.
Customers must first know that you exist.
That’s why businesses need to build brand awareness.
Did you know it takes 17 exposures before a brand will start to register for a customer?
Even then, if they are not interested they won’t purchase the product.
For example, you may know of some name brand sports products.
But if you don’t use them, you wouldn’t buy this product.
Keep in mind though.
Let’s say you have kids.
Maybe you want to grab them a gift.
If you have to ask around for help, chances are someone is going to recommend a name brand.
In fact, the store will stock several name brands.
And if you don’t have a name brand it’s going to be harder to get on that shelf.
Therefore harder to get the attention you need.
But fortunately, now we have the internet.
Which makes it easier than ever to brand yourself.
Exposure can be gained more quickly.
People can instantly know what you do and who you are.
Of course, it will still take some time to grow.
And if you get negative publicity from social media it can suffer.
But keep in mind that there are many ways you can build your brand effectively.
So are you ready to find out why branding is so important?
Great then, Let’s move on.
How can branding help?
If your building your own business, branding can be a marketing shortcut.
Since you are doing this on your own, you will need to use the things that will be the most effective.
Especially in marketing.
Branding can give you the following things,
- Word of mouth marketing
- The chance to build an email list
- Instant recognition
- Social media marketing
- Search engine optimization for free traffic
Plus many more.
A brand is the main reason why Amazon can achieve 15% conversion rates.
No one else really even comes close because they can’t match Amazon’s brand.
Yet this brand started online. Not as a brick and mortar business.
And as a result, many big bookstores have closed their doors.
Names like Barnes and Noble, Borders, and countless independent ones.
Did you know that Amazon started out just selling books?
But it soon became a publishing house in both digital and print.
And it has become the equivalent of an online department store.
It’s even an entertainment company.
They produce their own TV shows and movies.
Now, why did Amazon become such a trusted brand in such a short space of time?
Well, I’ll tell you.
Good customer service and value.
This helped them make their way into the daily lives of people all over the world.
And did you know that Starbucks started out of Seattle with one small shop?
Now, it’s a chain of coffee houses that have gone global.
Are they really better than any other coffee brand?
It is a question of taste and preference.
The coffee is a great deal more expensive at Starbucks than your local gas station.
Some will even say it’s not that good.
So why do people pay so much more?
It’s all about the brand.
They have a certain ambiance.
People want what’s hot and popular.
Then we have other top franchises like McDonald’s.
Their brand is a shortcut to getting exactly what you want when you want it.
The atmosphere, décor, food, and drinks are the same in any of these stores.
You know exactly what to expect and how far your money will go.
Those examples clearly show you that anyone can achieve huge things if they pay attention to branding.
If you do some research you’ll find what the old logos for Amazon and Starbucks looked like.
You can see how they tested new designs until they found the right one.
The one that they felt best represented their brand and made it instantly recognizable.
You, as a solopreneur can also accomplish this same level of branding.
You can have that instant recognition.
All you need to do is learn more about effective branding.
Put it at the top of your to-do list.
You may even want to try thinking about a new product or service you could use in relation to the brand.
Is there something it could add?
Could it create new impressions?
Also, think about if it would take away from the brand in any way.
And if it seems to be moving away from core values.
Now a strong and unified brand can make all the difference.
It may be the difference in success and starvation.
It can open doors and create endless opportunities.
Just imagine that if someone from Google called you.
Would you answer the phone?
Now imagine that John Smith called you.
Would you answer the phone for him?
Who would you be more likely to say yes to if they said they wanted to do a deal with you?
Having a great brand can help generate traffic.
Just by word of mouth.
People talk about brands all the time.
They share their experiences and make recommendations.
Remember this though, they will also complain about a bad experience.
Get this, statistics show that 1 happy customer will tell 1 person about their great experience.
But now you get 1 unhappy customer, and they will tell 7.
With this being the case, every solopreneur should have branding be their top priority.
You need to start building a strong and credible brand from the moment you launch your business.
If you can become a top brand you’ll gain a ton of free traffic.
Happy customers will be more likely to link to you.
They will share your content on social media more often too.
Now you know that more links and shares will mean more brand awareness.
And awareness will mean more people willing to try your brand to see if they like it.
If your having trouble coming up with your brand,
Or if you just want to save a ton of time and headaches
